Sensing how an absence continues to change what is present.
What is missing can still occupy a place. In this face, the area that never quite takes shape draws my gaze as much as the eye that does appear. I think of what is no longer there and yet keeps changing what remains. My gaze returns to that space, as though it still expected to find something.
